Kismayo Urban Water Supply & Sanitation Project
This project is being implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Jubaland in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), with funding support from the African Development Bank. The goal is to enhance access to safe and clean water, improve sanitation facilities, and promote public hygiene across Kismayo.
The key components include the construction of the Yoontoy Water Treatment Works, which consists of sedimentation tanks, filters, chemical dosing systems, and a large-capacity treated water storage tank (2,500m³). In addition, the installation of new water mains for raw and treated water is ongoing to ensure improved distribution within the city.
Sanitation improvements involve the construction of modern toilets and hygiene facilities in schools, health centers, and marketplaces. Community hygiene education has also been carried out to raise awareness about proper sanitation practices.
Kismayo City Municipality is dedicated to planning and implementing development initiatives that promote economic growth, social inclusion, environmental sustainability, and citizen participation.
